LIKE +ING

Grammar Rule

Examples

like going to the park.
love playing games.
don’t mind doing homework.

Remember!

We can use ‘like’, ‘love’, ‘hate’ and ‘don’t mind’ to say how we feel about an activity.
She loves watching TV.
He hates tidying his room.
They don’t like going to the dentist.

Be careful!

After ‘like’, ‘love’, ‘hate’ and ‘don’t mind’ we usually use the verb with ‘ing’.
I love using the computer.
He doesn’t like shopping.
She doesn't mind reading.

We say... We don’t say...

I like cooking. (NOT I like to cooking.)
She doesn’t like studying. (NOT She doesn’t like for studying.)

If you need to practise some exercises about "like"

Here you are some websites.

PRESENT SIMPLE

Checking vocabulary in class we have seen that some people need to review PRESENT SIMPLE.

PRESENT SIMPLE is used to talk about general truths and timetable. The simple present tense has a special -s marking when the subject is a singular noun or a third person pronoun.
